Every year, millions of devout catholic Filipinos participate in the Feast of the Black Nazarene procession in Quiapo, Manila. The 'Traslacion' observes the movement of the image of the Jesus Nazarene as it moves through the streets of Manila, eventually making its way back to Quiapo church.

 

Beliefs hold that the image of Jesus bearing a large wooden cross carries sanctity, and can heal a person's illness or grant one's prayers. It's a normal sight that people raze to climb up the "Andas" that wheels the Jesús Nazareno, for a chance to wipe a handkerchief at the image of christ.

 

This is my first time attending the Traslacion, and I would unfortunately later crowd near the center along the ropes that pulls the Andas.
